Panmedia is a boutique agency and web bureau company located in Kingston, Jamaica with special interests in new media marketing, advertising and communications.
We develop for clients highly effective strategies and messages for informing target groups. We can identify the critical target audiences and ensure a deep understanding of the strength of client resources, the depth of knowledge and experience of their team, and the framework in which they operate.
We understand how technology can extend a client's reach, empower their message and reduce the costs of communication and advertising programs. Our competitive edge comes from our close personal service (top down not down top), a wide palette of skill sets from internal and external professionals, our broad outlook and our out of the box thinking.
History
Panmedia grew out of a media strategy consulting practice by its principal Knolly Moses and began business on the ground floor of his townhouse in 1996. In the beginning the company grabbed any work that walked through the door. The tiny staff quickly took to the Internet and convinced Jamaica Online’s owners, Maurice McNaughton and Hanif Latchman, that they could develop content. The company designed Jamaica’s first portal, [Jamaica Today], giving Brand Jamaica early exposure on the Internet.
Since then, Panmedia has remained a web bureau while offering the full services of an advertising agency. The company has built ten sites for Cable & Wireless, six for Grace Kennedy and a few of its own. In advertising, Panmedia has developed campaigns for DB&G, Myers Fletcher & Gordon, First Global Bank, Billy Craig Insurance Brokers, among others.

Web Tools
The majority of web sites developed by Panmedia are done using Drupal, we also use the Django web framework when possible. As with most web development the tools and platform we use will vary depending on the developer but there are some common ones. For design we use tools from the Adobe Suites of products: Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. At least one person uses Dreamweaver on a regular basis but most other editing is done in either the e-text editor, ViM or Kate.
The operating systems used on a daily basis include OS X, Windows (XP and Vista) and Linux. However, our hosting platform is strictly Linux.
Since Drupal is written in PHP that is the language that is used on daily basis but Python is also utilized when possible.
As part of our development process we use Basecamp as a collaboration tool. While we host our own email and use most of the tools offered by Google Apps such as the calendar and documents.
Web Developer practices used
Panmedia’s site design methodology ensures minimal load times for all pages. CSS based layouts are used to reduce page sizes and enhance the overall responsiveness of the site. Large graphics are avoided unless essential for conveying important information or key messages. All images are optimized for the web multimedia, technologies like Flash are only used in places where we believe they may enhance the overall user experience.
Standards compliant code is used to enhance search engine friendliness, improve accessibility and ensure cross-browser compatibility. Where appropriate, AJAX is used to enhance the site’s perceived responsiveness and to allow the wealth of information available on the site to be accessed in an intuitive, unobtrusive manner.
