As early as 1984, the Maranello factory had begun development of an evolution model of the 288 GTO intended to compete against the 959 in FIA Group B. When the FIA brought an end to the Group B category for the 1986 season, Enzo was left with five 288 GTO Evoluzione development cars, and no series in which to campaign them. Enzo's desire to leave a legacy in his final supercar allowed the Evoluzione program to be further developed to produce a car exclusively for road use.
[1] As a result of that and being made available to anybody, many bought the car purely as an investment at the time. As a result of this, and to enhance the exclusive image of the brand, Ferrari only invited loyal customers to buy their latest flagship supercar, the Enzo Enzo Enzo.
[1] The resale value is lower than that of other Ferrari supercars because of the large production numbers of the F40. 1315 cars were produced.
[1] The car debuted with a factory MSRP of around $400,000, although some buyers were reported as paying as much as $1.6 million for their F40 in the early '90s supercar boom.
[1] Supercars are ultra-high performance cars, typically very expensive, luxurious and exceptionally fast.
[2] Larger, more powerful and heavier than sports cars, these vehicles typically have a FR layout FR layout and seating for four passengers ( 2+2 ). These are more expensive than sports cars but not expensive as supercars.
[2] The RMR layout is commonly found only in sports cars -- the motor is centre-mounted in the chassis (closer to and behind the driver), and powers only the rear wheels. High-performance sports car and supercar manufacturers, such as Ferrari and Lamborghini prefer this layout.
[3] The Maserati MC12 is a mid-engined supercar derivative of the Enzo Ferrari developed by Maserati while under control of Ferrari. It was developed specifically to be homologated for racing in the FIA GT Championship, with a minimum requirement of 25 road versions to be produced before the car could be allowed to compete.
[4] The car is fitted with extensive data-recording and telemetry systems to allow Ferrari to record the car's behavior. This information will be used by Ferrari to develop their next supercar.
