In 1999, the 1.9 L 4-cylinder engine was replaced with a 2.5 L straight-6 M52TUB25, producing 170 hp (130 kW). [1] Outside of North America, the 1.9 L 4-cylinder was replaced with a 2.0 L straight-6 in 1999.[1] The range consisted of the 2.2 L M54B22 (available outside of North America), 2.5 L M54B25, 3.0 L M54B30, and (for the M Roadster) 3.2 L S54B32. All three of these straight-6 engines lasted through the end of the car's run in 2002.[1] In the North American market, the inline-4 engine was complemented by a larger straight-6 engine in 1997: the 2.8 L M52B28. This engine, similar to the BMW M52 in the 328i except with an all aluminum block and head, was especially desirable with its 189 hp (141 kW).[1]

Image:99 S600.jpg The first V12 S-Class debuted as a W140 model. In 1992, A new 6.0L 408 hp (304 kW) V12 engine joined the lineup for the first time with the 600SE, 600SEL and 600SEC. To distinguish these high-powered halo cars from their V8 and straight-6 counterparts, a "V12" badge was affixed to the C-pillar, a leather dashboard and suede headliner was available, and the grille was redesigned on all V12 models in 1997. [2] Most sales came from the diesel model in the United States United States and straight-6 models in Europe Europe, although the V8 models were praised by contemporary journalists. During the W126 mid-cycle update in 1986, both the straight-6 and V8 engines were upgraded in several models to different displacement levels (six-cylinder upgraded from 2.8L to 3.0L, eight-cylinder upgraded from 3.8L to 4.2L, and 5.0L to 5.6L).[2] The W108 line launched with an initial lineup of straight-6 powered models. The unusual high-displacement 300 SEL 6.3 V8 model was based on this body type.[2] The later W128 lineup was the last to be associated with the "Ponton" name, and featured sedan, coup", and cabriolet models powered by a 2.2L straight-6.[2]

In 1961, the W111 series was augmented with a line of 3.0 L straight-6 cars, the W112.[2]

Initially powered by a line of straight-6 engines ( the M180 and M127 ), it set a new standard for luxury.[2]

After the launch of the Vantage, sales of the supercharged straight-6 engine DB7 quickly dried up, and production was ended in mid"1999.[3] A 326 bhp (243 kW) supercharged version of the straight-6 was offered and badged as the XJR. This was the first supercharged Jaguar in the company's history and only the second car Jaguar ever made that used forced induction - the other being the extremely rare and expensive turbocharged turbocharged Jaguar XJ220 Jaguar XJ220 sports car.[4] The single cam 2.9 L straight-6 engine found in Europe was a derivative of Jaguar's legendary 6.0 L V12 HE, but it proved to be underpowered and thirsty compared to the 3.6.[4] There were three engine variants including the 5.3L V12, the 4.2L straight 6 and 3.4L straight 6.[4]

The BMW M57 type Engine is a straight-6 Diesel produced from 1998. It won the "2.5-3 L" category of the International Engine of the Year award for 1999 through 2002. [5] The four-wheel-steering HICAS system has been done away with, plus the traditional straight-6 RB26DETT engine has been replaced with a new V6 VR38DETT.[6]

The AMC 4.0 L straight-6 engine, able to tow 5,000 lb, was also refined, through minimal loss in horsepower but gained more torque and presented quieter operation. Limited models that year and onward had more luxury luxury items such as driver placement memory, remote radio control from the steering wheel, and variable assist while driving and parking.[7] The first update to the FG is scheduled to be released in 2010. Details about the first update codenamed "Huntsman" are scarce, however it has been confirmed by Ford that they will cease production of the locally manufactured straight-6 engine in 2010 and replace it with an imported V6 engine V6 engine ( Ford Cyclone engine ).[8]
