The first generation R31 Nissan Pintara was a mid-sized family car built by Nissan Australia at it's Clayton assembly plant in Melbourne. Replacing the Nissan Bluebird, it was a four-cylinder version of the R31 Nissan Skyline, entirely built and sold in Australia to challenge the Mitsubishi Magna. Like the Skyline, it was offered in sedan and station wagon form.
A TRX bodykit package was offered for the R31 GX and GXE Pintara Sedans, featuring a front and rear air dam, rear spoiler, side skirts, grille cover, alloy wheels and low profile tyres. Unlike the later U12 TRX it did not feature any mechanical upgrades, merely an additional bodykit.
RWD CA20E, 2 litre 4 cylinder SOHC MPI fuel injected with electronic concentrated control system (ECCS) including electronic ignition. It featured 2 spark plugs per cylinder to help meet emission requirements.

The R31 Pintara was replaced in 1989 by a car initially hyped by the media as 'Project Matilda', which turned out to be a locally produced front-wheel drive version of the U12 Nissan Bluebird, rather than a model uniquely designed for Australia as initial stories had indicated. In Australia, this was sold as the U12 Nissan Pintara, and was also available as a locally designed five-door 'Sportshatch' (exported back to Japan, and to New Zealand as a Bluebird). The model was discontinued in mid-1992 when Nissan Australia ceased local production.
Under the Button Plan, in which local manufacturers shared models, Ford Australia marketed a rebadged version of the U12 Pintara sedan and hatchback as the Ford Corsair.

2001 Nissan Altima GXE Limited Edition from North America - Comments (Carsurvey.org)
Brakes went bad at 37,000 miles. Paint peeled of both mirrors at 40,000 miles. I also have a 2001 GXE Limited Edition. I will never purchase another Nissan under any circumstances. I had to have my brakes completely rebuilt at 37k miles; I wrote Nissan about this and never once received a response.
