The Avenger, along with the similar Chrysler Sebring coupe, were built by Diamond Star Motors (DSM), a joint venture joint venture between Chrysler Corporation and Mitsubishi Motors, on a stretched version of the Mitsubishi Eclipse platform. This joint venture between the two ended in 1995. Avengers and Sebring coupes built from 1995 to 1996 both have DSM markings in their engine compartments. [1] The Avenger, along with the redesigned Chrysler Sebring, shares a DaimlerChrysler / Mitsubishi Motors platform called the GS.[1]

The New Grandeur and the third generation of the Mitsubishi Debonair were the products of a joint development between Hyundai and Mitsubishi Motors.[2] Following the successful showing of the Mitsubishi HSX concept car at the 1989 Tokyo Motor Show, Mitsubishi developed the new GTO as a technically advanced sports coupe to compete with the Mazda RX-7, Nissan 300ZX Nissan 300ZX and Skyline GT-R Skyline GT-R, and the Toyota Supra. They resurrected the GTO name, and the car went on to serve as Mitsubishi"s flagship for the remainder of the decade.[3] Mitsubishi i specifications Mitsubishi i specifications (Japanese).Mitsubishi Motors website.[4]

The first was the "i" Concept, which debuted at the 60th Frankfurt Motor Show in 2003, and previewed the car's striking exterior.[4] In 2006, more than 69 million motor vehicles, including cars and commercial vehicles were produced worldwide.[5] Toyota Motors holds 51% stake Daihatsu hence having a controlling interest in the company. OICA lists Daihatsu as an independent entity in its World Motor Vehicle Production statistics. The Toyota production figures in this table include both Toyota and Daihatsu.[5] The table is ranked by parent group production volumes for 2006 (all motor vehicles) from the OICA data, with the largest producer appearing at the top of the table, as for the table above.[5] Reference: World motor vehicle production by manufacturer: World ranking 2006 World motor vehicle production by manufacturer: World ranking 2006.[5] Reference: World Motor Vehicle Production by Country: 2005 - 2006 World Motor Vehicle Production by Country: 2005 - 2006.[5]

The automotive industry is the industry involved in the design, development, manufacture, marketing, and sale of motor vehicles.[5] The table below gives the world's largest twenty motor vehicle manufacturers along with their marques, classified as divisions and subsidiary subsidiary companies.[5]

Hyundai Motor America Inc. said Thursday its U.S. April sales rose and adjusted 0.4% to 39,280 vehicles from 39,137 a year ago.[2]

  • The Outlander was given a modified front grille and headlights which increased the overall length by approximately 130 mm (five inches) when it was introduced in 2003, and the two models were manufactured in parallel thereafter. The second generation of the vehicle was introduced in 2005 and all markets including Japan adopted the Outlander name. It was built on the company's GS platform, and used various engines developed by Mitsubishi, Volkswagen Volkswagen and PSA Peugeot Citro"n. [6] At the 2007 SEMA Show, the company displayed a Mitsubishi Evolander concept, powered by a 224 kW (300 PS) supercharged version of the vehicle's 6B31 V6 engine V6 engine and equipped with suitably uprated suspension, brakes, wheels/tires, body kit and interior. It is mooted that an Outlander Ralliart would closely mimic the mechanical specifications of this concept, although there is no indication that production has been approved.[6]

A high performance model, using a detuned version of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution's 4G63T 2.0 L turbo, was introduced in 2002.[6]

In Chile it was known as the Montero Outlander, to benefit from an association with the strong-selling Mitsubishi Montero Sport.[6] The Outlander, which features Mitsubishi's RISE safety body, received a four star rating from the Euro NCAP car safety performance assessment programme.[6]

The first generation incorporated many of Mitsubishi's contemporary performance-enhancing technologies, such as full time all wheel drive, four wheel steering, active aerodynamics featuring automatically-adjusting front and rear spoilers, a tuneable exhaust and electronically controlled suspension (ECS).[3] Despite the cachet of the badge at home, it was known as the Mitsubishi 3000GT outside Japan ; the company was concerned that connoisseurs would object to the evocative nameplate from the highly regarded Ferrari 250 GTO and Pontiac GTO Pontiac GTO being used on a Japanese vehicle. Regardless of its badge or eventual target market, every car was built on the same production line at Mitsubishi's plant in Nagoya, Japan.[3] The SOHC 12v engine, previously only available in the base model Stealth, was added to the Mitsubishi range after the Dodge version was discontinued.[3] 1st Anniversary special editions based on the L and M grades were also introduced in early 2007 to commemorate the car's first year on sale. Mitsubishi has given the i a prominent role in the company's alternative propulsion research projects, developing a version using their MiEV (Mitsubishi innovative Electric Vehicle) technology in 2006 and exhibited at the 22nd International Battery, Hybrid and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle Symposium & Exposition in Yokohama.[4] Image:2003 se-ro.jpg The 2003 Mitsubishi Se-Ro concept, which introduced the 660 cc engine used in the production version of the i.[4] The "i" Concept was powered by a 999 cc powerplant with the company's Mitsubishi Smart Idling (MSI) system, which turns off the engine automatically when the vehicle is stationary, and can restart it within 0.2 seconds.[4] Image:2003 i concept.jpg The 2003 Mitsubishi "i" Concept debuted the car's striking exterior.[4] Image:Mitsubishi i 2.JPG Two Mitsubishi i kei cars photographed together in Japan.[4] Image:Mitsubishi i hello kitty.jpg The unique Hello Kitty edition of the Mitsubishi i, which was on public display in Tokyo for one week before being auctioned for charity.[4] From July 25 " 31, 2006 the company displayed a unique Mitsubishi i Hello Kitty edition at the Mitsukoshi department store in Tokyo's Nihonbashi district.[4]

The aviation theme continued with the name; Se-Ro, short for "secret room", was a veiled reference to the Mitsubishi Zero fighter aircraft of World War II World War II.[4]

Introduced as a 1995 model year vehicle the Dodge Avenger shared a platform with the Mitsubishi Eclipse. This model was discontinued after the 2000 model year. In 2005 rumours started to spread that the Avenger name would be returning to the Dodge lineup though this time it would be replacing the Dodge Stratus, the coupe version of which replaced the Avenger in 2001. This time however it would not be a coupe but a sedan only.[1] The first generation Dodge Avenger was a 2-door coupe produced from 1995 to 2000, replacing the Dodge Daytona and the Mitsubishi -based Dodge Stealth (which was discontinued in 1996).[1]

For the new cars, the GS platform is stretched in size and known as the JS. The base engine in the SE and SXT trim levels is the 2.4 L GEMA I4 naturally-aspirated "World Engine", a joint venture between DaimlerChrysler, Mitsubishi and Hyundai.[1]
