A minor body redesign in 2003 added the hood ornament back again. 2003 also marked the last year that the Town Car was available in a trim package with the name "Cartier" (1981 to 2003). [1] In 1990, the Town Car's body went through a major redesign and a rear air suspension was added as standard equipment. That year, it was also named as Motor Trend Motor Trend's Car of the Year. Through most of this model run, the car was available in four trim levels: Town Car (Precursor to the Executive Series ending in 1990), Executive (beginning with the 1991 model year), Signature, and Cartier, in increasing order of price and appointment of features.[1] Being introduced as standard equipment for all Town Cars during the 1990 model year was a new digital instrumentation system with a more advanced message center, however the 1991 and 1992 model years featured a conventional analog instrument cluster as standard equipment. Many advanced safety features were made available on this generation Town Car.[1] For 1985, the Town Car received minor design updates. Like previous years, the design scheme introduced for 1985 included a reflector running in between both taillights above the license plate frame, a design feature kept for the second generation Town Car. 1985 also saw the introduction of newer more ergonomically designed seats, including four way adjustable front head restraints (1986-1989).[1] In 1990, upon the introduction of the second generation Town Car, the vehicle received the honor of being named Motor Trend Car of the Year.[1] During the late 1980s and early 1990s, Town Car sales regularly exceeded 100,000 units with 120,121 Town Cars being sold in 1994 alone. With the demise of the Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham after 1996, the Town Car became the only traditional luxury car on the American market, as far as such cars were defined in earlier years before downsizing and conversion to front-wheel drive began to take shape.[1]

Over its twenty-five year run, the Town Car has become one of best selling luxury cars of the United States and received several awards in the process.[1] Since 1981, the Town Car has been considered a model in its own right, replacing the Continental (whose name reappeared a year later on a smaller model). Upon its introduction, the Town Car immediately became Lincoln's flagship model, a purpose it continues to serve to this day.[1] The Town Car is also the only vehicle to receive a five star rating in all five categories for five years in a row, from 2001 to 2006.[1] Cloth (Canvas) roofs were optional. The introduction of the Panther platform Town Car in 1980 was also the end for 400 in" and 460 in" V8 engines in Lincoln's line-up; they were replaced with the very popular 302 in" (5.0 L) V8 (carburated from 1980-1981; and with a throttle body fuel injection system an option at the start, replaced by Port Fuel Injection in 1986 through the 1989 model year).[1] For the 1980 to 1983 model years, inclusive, a Mark VI version of the Town Car was produced with hidden (retractable) headlights and the characteristic simulated spare tire shape on the trunk lid.[1] Beginning with the 2004 model year, the top-of-the-line Town Car was instead designated as the "Ultimate".[1]

The XK won the respected Top Gear magazine "GT of the Year" and "Car of the Year" awards in 2006. [2] The Mustang has been on the Car and Driver Ten Best list five times: 1983, 1987, 1988, 2005, and 2006, and won Motor Trend Car of the Year award in both 1974 and 1994. Ford Division's entire car line won the Car(s) of the Year award in 1964, which was the Mustang's first year of production, but a few weeks before its actual introduction.[3] The Mustang grew larger and heavier with each passing year, culminating with the 1971 to 1973 models that were far different compared to the original 1964 model. The automaker was deluged with mail from fans of the original car who demanded that the Mustang be returned to its original size and concept.[3] In 2005, the Mustang was nominated for the North American Car of the Year award and won the Canadian Car of the Year award.[3] The Mustang was named Motor Trend magazine's Car of the Year for the third time in 1994.[3]

Sales picked up substantially during 2000, thanks largest to it being Britain's fifth most popular new car of the month in April of that year. It was still selling reasonably well at the time of MG Rover's bankruptcy in April 2005, and a small number of unsold 75s were still in stock as of early 2007, as Nanjing Automobile was preparing to re-open Longbridge.[4]

1st Anniversary special editions based on the L and M grades were also introduced in early 2007 to commemorate the car's first year on sale. Mitsubishi has given the i a prominent role in the company's alternative propulsion research projects, developing a version using their MiEV (Mitsubishi innovative Electric Vehicle) technology in 2006 and exhibited at the 22nd International Battery, Hybrid and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle Symposium & Exposition in Yokohama.[5]

[6] In January 2008, the new Malibu received the prestigious North American Car of the Year Award at the North American International Auto Show North American International Auto Show in Detroit in voting among a panel comprised of fifty prominent automotive journalists in a very competitive field of entries including the 2008 Cadillac CTS and the 2008 Honda Accord.[7] The new model has won critical praise from newspapers, magazines and other media outlets, with the New York Times referring to it as being "like a super Accord, but from GM" and Car and Driver magazine declaring, "Camry, Beware." It also garnered high praise from MotorTrend magazine, being rated higher than the Honda Accord in the magazine's 2008 Car of The Year competition.[7] The Malibu was Motor Trend Motor Trend magazine's Car of the Year for 1997.[7] The Malibu's win marks the second straight year that a car built on GM's Epsilon platform has won the North American COTY Award with the 2007 North American COTY Award having gone to the 2007 Saturn Aura.[7]

It is probably not a coincidence that "Town Car" is English English for " Sedan de Ville," Cadillac's model that was gaining popularity in the 1950s. Both names refer to a classic style of limousine, popular in the 1920s, which had an open chauffeur's compartment up front, but only Lincoln has sometimes attempted to make its modern models visually suggest their older namesakes. [1] The Town Car name later appeared on several trim levels on the Lincoln Continental flagship sedan from 1959 to 1980. In 1981, the Lincoln Town Car became a model in its own right and became Lincoln's largest sedan as well as its flagship vehicle.[1] The Town Car name first appeared in the Lincoln line in 1922, on a custom built Lincoln for Henry Ford.[1] Town Car is the first car in automotive history to receive a five-star rating in all five categories" - Lincoln web-site.[1] To keep up with current design trends, the previously covered headlights were now exposed and composed of two adjoining square units. The first generation Town Car also featured many advanced luxury options for its time.[1] The first generation Town Car featured a body profile and grille similar to that of the late 1970s Lincoln Continental.[1] Image:1978 Lincoln Town Car2.jpg 1978 Lincoln Continental Town Car. This was the final full-size body before downsizing in 1980.[1]

A factory option available to individual owners of Town Cars since 2001 has been a version of the Town Car with an extra six inches of rear seat legroom, designated as the "L" or "long" version. This model provides extra amenities for rear-seat passengers, including a unique rear-seat switch that allows the front-passenger seat to be moved forward as desired for extra room in the rear.[1] The L editions offer an additional six inches of legroom as well as separate audio and climate controls for rear passengers. While this designation is similar to that used on other luxury flagship sedans such as the BMW 7-Series or the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Mercedes-Benz S-Class Mercedes-Benz S-Class, the "L" designation was never its own trim option on the Town Car.[1] L Edition (2001 - present) The designation "L" was used on Lincoln Town Cars with extended wheelbases.[1] (Forbes) The Town Car is currently the largest American-made car, measuring nearly 18 feet (5.49 m) in length for a standard Town Car and 18 1/2 ft (5.64 m) for an L Edition.[1]

To celebrate Lincoln's 75th anniversary in 1996, the Town Car took on a "Diamond Anniversary" edition. This edition was applied to Signature Series sedans only.[1] In 1981 the Town Car was introduced in three trim levels, the base Executive Series, the mid-range Signature Series, and the top-of-the-line Cartier.[1] Executive (1981 - 2003) The Executive Series was the basic trim level and thus also most affordable trim level on the Lincoln Town Car from 1981 through 2003.[1] Cartier (1981 - 2003) Cartier was used on the top-of-line Town Car from 1981 through 2003. The Cartier also featured its own version of Lincoln emblem which was stitched onto the seats.[1] Ride Control was only available on Signature and Cartier Town Cars while Touring Edition was available for all Town Car models.[1] Memory seating with power front passenger and driver lumbar and recliner support was an option on Signature Town Car and standard on Cartier Town Car.[1]

Introduced in 1990 were several new options that had never been available before on a Town Car.[1] The Town Car is, however, still considered one of the best chauffeured vehicles as it receives high marks for being among the most comfortable, quiet riding and roomiest luxury cars available.[1] The third generation Town Car is one of the quietest vehicles on the road with an interior noise level of only 36 decibels while idling.[1] Again, the Town Car trim featured an extra plush interior along with, usually but not always, a landau vinyl roof over the rear passenger compartment.[1] Often referred to as a traditional American luxury sedan, the Town Car features a V8 engine V8 engine, rear-wheel drive, very generous exterior and interior dimensions as well as a "Pillowy ride and chrome aplenty."[1] A standard wheel-base Town Car features 112.7 ft" of interior volume versus 105 ft" in the Mercedes-Benz S 600 Mercedes-Benz S 600 or 111 ft" in the extended wheelbase BMW 760il. The difference is even greater when comparing the Signature L Series with its enormous 120.5 ft" of interior space.[1] The Town Car Signature L features a rear seat comfort package which not only provides rear seat passengers with audio system and rear compartment climate controls, but also features a control function which allows for the rear seat occupants to move the passenger seat forward, a feature exclusive to few ultra-luxury sedans. In addition to its many amenities, the Signature L also features an unrivaled 46.9 in of rear legroom, and 60 in of rear shoulder room.[1]

While relatively affordable when compared to European European flagship luxury sedans, the Town Car is currently the most expensive American luxury sedan (according to base MSRP) with prices ranging from $43,075 for a basic Signature Series to $56,745 for a top-of-the-line Signature L Series.[1] The Lincoln Town Car is a rear-wheel drive rear-wheel drive full-size full-size luxury sedan and serves as the flagship of Ford's Ford's Lincoln luxury car division.[1] The 1990 Lincoln Town Car also marked the end of the Town Car's 1970s-based angular design.[1] At the end the owner of a Lincoln would appear with the line "The Lincoln Town Car please."[1]

According to J.D. Power and Associates the Lincoln marque has the highest customer satisfaction of any car brand.[1] The average decibel rating for a vehicle is roughly 45 decibels with the world's quietest car, the Lexus LS averaging 32 decibels.[1] In 1988, the Town Car went through a minor facelift including additional brushed metal work on the rear of the vehicle.[1] Over two-thirds of Town Car buyers are repeat buyers with 60% not even considering the purchase of another luxury vehicle besides the Town Car.[1] According to Consumer Guide the car scores above average in the premium luxury segment for comfort, room and materials but scores below average for acceleration, steering and overall technical performance. Otherwise, the Town Car has frequently received negative reviews with the car being considered "out of date."[1]

The Town Car received a new dashboard, new seats and new interior door panels.[1] While the Town Car lost three inches in overall length, the new Town Car was two inches wider, one inch taller, and weighed 600 pounds more.[1]

The Town Car badge has always been applied to sedans, but from 1975 to 1980, there was a similar option for coupes called the Town Coupe.[1] The Electrochromatic Dimming Mirror was also a carryover option from the 1989 Town Car.[1] The Town Car is one of the safest cars available on the North American market.[1] The Town Car has been available featuring ballistic protection since 2003 with prices starting at $144,995.[1] The first Canadian-built Town Car rolled off the assembly line on January 10 January 10, 2008 2008.[1] The more boxy Town Car design of the 1990s was replaced by a curvacious design scheme with a downwards sloping trunklid, pursed lip grille and cat-eye headlights.[1] All Town Cars from 1980-1989 featured an optional trailer towing package which included: dual exhausts, a shortened limited slip differential and an improved cooling package for the motor as well as transmission.[1] Overall the second generation Town Car was an overwhelming sales success and quickly became one of America's best selling full-size luxury sedans.[1] According to Forbes, Edmunds.com and NCTD, the Town Car is the most spacious luxury sedan under $200k; an honor easily proven by the interior's generous dimensions.[1] One of the best chauffeured cars. Forbes magazine repeatedly named the Town Car one of the best cars to be chauffeured in, ahead of other, often more expensive flagship sedans, such as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7-Series and Lexus LS Lexus LS.[1] The latest version of the Town Car can be seen frequently in episodes of CBS ' NCIS, transporting either the Director, Jenny Shepard, VIPs or other federal agency heads.[1] The post-1997 Town Car features a slightly longer wheelbase wheelbase as well.[1] The Touring Edition featured a more powerful 235 hp (175 kW) version of the Town Car's Modular V8 engine, dual exhaust pipes and unique 16 inch alloy wheels with larger tires.[1]

The 1990 body style remained primarily unchanged until the next new body style premiered in 1998, a redesign which included the removal of the car's hood ornament and more angular shapes.[1]

Lincoln's other direct competitor in the domestic luxury car market, Chrysler Corporation's Imperial, was dropped after 1975 with two subsequent revivals of the Imperial nameplate made in 1981 and 1990 on much smaller vehicles that were unsuccessful and short-lived.[1]

The 4.6 L V8 with 239 hp (178 kW) and sportier handling thanks to rack and pinion speed sensitive steering was also introduced for the 2003 model year.[1] The basic trim level for 2005 was called Signature, the mid trim level was called Signature Limited and the top-of-line trim-level was called Signature L. The trim level designations were revised again for the 2006 model year.[1] Touring Edition featured a power moonroof, JBL audio system, auto dimming headlights, auto electrochromatic dimming mirror, auxiliary power steering fluid cooler, 16-inch aluminum wheels, 225/60/16 tires, 3.27 axle ratio, 28.5 mm stabilizer bar, and revised air springs and shocks. Both the Ride Control and Touring Edition packages would last only between 1996 and 1997; however, the Touring Edition package would make a brief comeback during the 2000 model year.[1]

For model year 2008 has been presented the 3.5l V8 version with 258 hp (192 kW).[2] The naming convention is similar to that of the S-Type R S-Type R special edition. Unlike the S-Type R, it will never be realised on a Mk.1 XK chassis although a model of the same name could appear on the Mk.2 XK later this year.[2]

The supercharged variant is known as the XKR. The first-generation XK series shares its platform with the Aston Martin DB7. Both cars are derived from the Jaguar XJS, though the platform has been extensively changed. Both the XK8 and XKR are electronically limited to a maximum of 155 mph mph (250 km/h ), lower than the top speed of its predecessor.[2] The designer, Ian Callum, was also responsible for Aston Martin's DB7 and Vanquish coup"s, which explains the similarities in design among the three cars.[2] Jaguar unveiled an all-new 2006 car (project code X150), called simply the "XK", at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2005. It uses the new all- aluminium monocoque chassis developed from the 2005 Advanced Lightweight Coup" (ALC) concept car and is offered as both a coup" or convertible.[2] Jaguar also produced a concept car called the XKR-R which was very similar to the production XKR, but boasting a more powerful 450 bhp (340 kW) engine, a manual gearbox, a limited-slip differential and improved handling.[2]

First conceived by Ford product manager Donald N. Frey and championed by Ford Division general manager Lee Iacocca, the Mustang prototype was a two-seat, mid-engine roadster roadster. This would later be remodeled as a four-seat car penned by David Ash and John Oros in Ford's Lincoln " Mercury Division design studios, which produced the winning design in an intramural design contest called by Iacocca.[3] Developed under the direction of Chief Engineer Hau Thai-Tang and exterior styling designer Sid Ramnarace, the fifth generation Mustang draws inspiration from Mustangs of the 1960s, notably the 1967-68 models. It was this redesigned aesthetic that inspired Ford's Senior Vice President of Design, J Mays, to call it "retro-futurism." The 2005 Mustang's unique retro coupe styling complements its muscle car status with an approximate weight to power ratio of 11.5:1.[3] The new-for-1974 "Mustang II" model was drastically downsized from the 1973 cars.[3] The Mustang created a new " pony car " class of cars by adapting the "long hood, short deck" look of sports cars to compact sedans. It spawned many competitors such as the Camaro Camaro, and inspired smaller import coupes such as the Toyota Celica Toyota Celica Toyota Celica and Ford Capri.[3] While the original concept for the Mustang did not foresee its evolution into a performance car, Ford has catered to individuals looking for more performance.[3]

The Mustang remains a popular track and drag strip car at amateur and professional levels of competition.[3]

At the 2004 North American International Auto Show North American International Auto Show, Ford introduced a completely redesigned Mustang which was codenamed "S-197" and based on an all-new D2C platform for the 2005 model year.[3] Initial sales of the Rover 75 were disappointing, as it failed to match the BMW 3 Series BMW 3 Series and Audi A4 Audi A4 in the British car sales charts during 1999.[4] The Rover V8 grille was made available as an option for the rest of the range shortly afterwards. Since its launch, the 75 has been one of the most popular ministerial cars in the British Government. Various Ministers are driven around in 75s and Tony Blair had access to a 75 Limousine while he was in power, but was never seen in it.[4]

The introduction of the "greener" 1.8 litre turbo greatly benefited British company car drivers who are taxed on carbon dioxide carbon dioxide emissions. A customisation programme, Monogram, was launched, allowing buyers to order their car in a wider range of exterior paint colours and finishes, different interior trims and with optional extras installed during production.[4] The car quickly attracted praise for its characteristics, including its ride quality, interior, and traditional looks. Critics of the car labelled its styling too "retro", suggesting it had been designed with an older buyer in mind, was not'sporting' enough when compared to the competition.[4]

The 75 won a series of international awards including various "most beautiful car" awards, including one in Italy.[4] The sale of Jaguar and Land Rover as a job lot to Tata of India feels like the final insult to the British car industry.[4] The i has a "rear-midship" engine mounted just ahead of the rear axle, a highly unusual configuration in a small car where front-engine design front-engine design has dominated since the 1970s.[5] With no powertrain in front of the driver, the designers were able to shorten the front overhang and lengthen the wheelbase wheelbase to 2550 millimetres (100.4 in ), giving greater legroom for passengers than many comparable kei cars whose wheelbase is typically 130"190 millimetres (5.1"7.5 in) less. The downside of this design was a reduction in cargo-carrying capacity, which was necessarily compromised by the engine's location in the rear.[5] Three individual models, or grades, were available on the car's release in 2006; S, M, and G, in ascending order of price. They all shared the same five-door hatchback body style and turbocharged engine, but offered differing levels of options and standard equipment.[5]

The first was the "i" Concept, which debuted at the 60th Frankfurt Motor Show in 2003, and previewed the car's striking exterior.[5] The New Spider version (Type 939) was introduced at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show, where it also received "Cabrio of the Year" award.[8] At the beginning there were two engine options available: the 2.2L straight-4 and 3.2L V6 JTS engines, and the JTD common rail turbodiesel was introduced at 2007 Geneva Motor Show. This car replaced Spider 916 Spider 916 model, introduced in 1995. This Spider version can be seen as 6th generation of Alfa Spiders, the first version of which was released in 1966.[8] The Brera originally appeared as a concept car concept car concept car at the 2002 Geneva Motor Show. It was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro at Italdesign Giugiaro.[8]

Cars with the diesel or 2.2 petrol are front-wheel drive, whilst the V6 comes with a Torsen four-wheel drive four-wheel drive system similar to the 156 156 and 159 159's Q4.[8]

The advertisement was titled "An American Revolution, Car Carrier" and featured six yet to be introduced cars and trucks boarding a car carrier as it traversed the United States -- notably the 103hp Aveo descending the Twin Peaks of San Francisco and making an airborne leap highly reminiscent of Steve McQueen's Ford Mustang Ford Mustang in the movie Bullitt -- before boarding the car carrier.[6] The Kalos models have been tested in at least four international New Car Assessment Programs, the results reflecting varying equipment and the differences in the tests themselves.[6] The Aveo sedans and Aveo5 placed 12th and 8th respectively in Consumer Reports 2007 Least satisfying Cars, with 44% of owners expressing inclined to buy again.[6] Link to the ad Two other fifteen second tv ads also created by the firm of Campbell-Ewald , spotlighted the Aveo: "Pachyderm" showing an elephant, chased down a city street by an Aveo and "Big Little," in which four basketball players enter the car look appear tiny in big seats, highlighting the vehicle's roominess.[6]

Marketed under five GM brands and eleven different nameplates, the Kalos vehicles have evolved through two styling generations. The nomenclature of the two generations, T200 and T250, derive from the internal coding used by first Daewoo and then GM Daewoo, during the car's development, and both generations have been built on a dedicated platform sharing three body styles and five engine configurations -- and shared with no other vehicles.[6]

The order was lifted shortly thereafter, after an investigation revealed no connection between the accidents. The Aveo was introduced for its market debut in a 60 second television advertisement that first appeared on New Year's Eve 2003, created by the firm of Campbell-Ewald, directed by Michael Bay and featuring the song Magic Carpet Ride by Steppenwolf.[6] The T200 Wave sedan was replaced for the 2007 model year with the T250, coinciding with the release of the 2007 T250 Aveo.[6] Sales commenced in North America in August 2006. The Aveo 5-door hatchback has been marketed as the "Aveo5" in Canada since its inception and in the U.S. beginning with model year 2007.[6] The first Malibu was the mid-range Chevrolet Chevelle from 1964 to 1972, the SS being the top of the line. 1964 was the first production year of the Chevelle Malibu.[7]

A remote starter is also available, which was introduced on several other GM vehicles for 2004. This generation of Malibu remained available for fleet orders for the 2008 model year. GM refers to these models as the Malibu Classic.[7] When a new Malibu was introduced on the Epsilon platform for 2004, the N-body Malibu was renamed Chevrolet Classic and remained in production for the 2004 and 2005 model years.[7] For the 1978 model year, the Malibu name replaced the Chevelle name. This was a downsized version compared to previous mid-sized Chevrolets.[7] The Malibu is redesigned for the 2008 model year. It is built on a revised version of the long-wheelbase Epsilon platform shared with the Saturn Aura and Pontiac G6. It is assembled in Kansas City and also at Lake Orion, Michigan alongside the Pontiac G6.[7]

The Epsilon-based Malibu comes in two bodystyles, a standard 4-door sedan and a 5-door Malibu Maxx station wagon. This generation of the Malibu initially debuted with a front fascia design featuring a wide grille split horizontally by a prominent chrome bar that ran the entire width of the car, which was intended to make it resemble Chevrolet's trucks trucks.[7] The Malibu name was moved to the new Epsilon platform based on the 2002 Opel Vectra C for 2004, but the previous car remained in production as the Chevrolet Classic for car rental and fleet use, which was discontinued in 2006.[7] A very rare 1980 Malibu M80 was a dealer package for only North and South Carolina in an effort to revive the muscle car era. It was however mostly aimed at Nascar fans who regularly traveled to Darlington Raceway. To this day, its unknown how many are left or were actually produced. (Estimates place this around 1,901 cars) All M80's had to be white with dark blue bucket seat and center console interior.[7]

All of the cars were equipped with air conditioning, heavy duty cooling systems, tough upholstery and 14-inch (360 mm) stamped steel wheels with trim rings and "baby moon" center caps. They were the ultimate Iraqi Taxis. In 1982 with 7,000 Malibus sitting on a dock in Halifax ready to ship and 5,000 more waiting for the train in Oshawa, where they were built, the Iraqis cancelled the order.[7] The car was painted Sublime Lime (BASF) and featured a highly-modified turbocharged 3500 SFI 60-degree V-6 (230 hp at 5,000 rpm and 280 ft"lbf (380 N"m) of torque at 2,900 rpm), a 4T65-E four speed transmission with overdrive, a set of 19x8-inch wheels by Evo wrapped in TOYO Proxes T1-S high-performance tires.[7]
